Frequently Asked Questions

Why should I have a website anyway?

There are endless reasons why you should and its no longer a case of should, it's must! Check out our guide on why you need one here.

What is involved in the cost of a website?

Sometimes people are mislead by what is involved in making a website, which can lead to a misunderstanding of a web development quote. Many people think that making a website is as simple as making a word document, but it is far from that!
Websites consist of the design and flash elements for interactivity and motion, which are both seen by the user. However, coding to tell the website what to do and when, databases to hold information, hosting (having a place to put the website), domain names (a www. address so people can find your website), custom programming, and other possibilities are also factored in to making a website. Some things are mandatory including hosting, domain name, design and custom coding while others add to your website, enabling your target audience to want to visit your site and keep coming back.

What kind of things do I need to provide to Pixelgems to get a website?

Well, first off you can contact us if you have any questions, or would just like to let us know you are looking for a website. Right away you should know why you want a website (for your company, hobby, etc.), what specific things you are looking to offer the end user (ex: your clients) and know that websites come in all sorts of shapes and sizes with different elements, simply put: you get what you pay for.

Content: You should have a good idea of what kind of content you would like on your websites. Before starting a website, we like to make sure that you have all the content (wordings, pictures, certain elements) that you want to have on your website. By knowing what is going to be on the site, we can build it based on the content. If we get the content after it makes it more difficult to match the site to your content's specific needs. You do not necessarily need to know exactly what the wording is of every page (although that helps), but its a good idea to know what pages you want and an idea of what you want to say. We can arrange for copy to be written extra to your project.

Inspiration: We need something to go off of. We are a bunch of talented designers, but if we just guess at what you want, then it often costs us time and money. Having some elements that you like can help us. If you have a logo already, be sure to send it to us so we can match colours and the same feeling. Also, look around the web to see what kind of things you like in a website.

More than one person: Many companies want lots of input from more than one person. Be sure your team is on the same page in terms of what you want in a website (content, design, functions, etc.) so that we can be on the same page as you!

Anything you can think of: Making a website is a partnership between us and you. If you can think of anything that will help us make the website of your dreams, let us know!

Is there anything I should know when sending you photos and/or our logo?

Yes! A tiny photo or logo won't do very much for us or you. Unless its a vector file, resizing images will make it appear fuzzy. Please send us the largest version of photos and logos you have.

Help! It looks like the site I am viewing is not displaying properly.

Many people do not update their browers (what you use to view websites). Be sure that you have the latest version of the browser you are using, especially if you are using Internet Explorer, be sure you are running at least Internet Explorer 7. However, we recommend Firefox, it is more secure and displays websites as they should be, plus it works on Mac and PC.
